cutting while getting enough protein

i have a hypothetical question:

let's say your maintenance level is 2600 calories a day to stay the same weight and out of those 2600 calories you are getting your bodyweight amount in protein (i.e. 180lbs = 180g protein)

how would you lose weight without cutting out some protein, since you need to get down to about 2300-2400 calores to lose a pound a week?

i guess you could do cardio?? what do you guys do - assuming the diet above is very clean (i.e. no fats or complex carbs to remove)

Depends on where he gets the protein from. If you need to bring in that many calories in order to get that much protein then either:

a) increase lifting frequency
b) do cardio
c) turn into the incredible hulk

I'm sure option C may not work for you.

You probably dont have to do either A or B, at 4 cals per gram 180 grams of protein only brings you to 720 calories for the day. You still have 1680 calories that you can eat that will constitute other foods.

Just by the way, while Joe is right, protein happens to be thermogenic in and of itself, so a diet with high protein would help in this regard.

Then eat your carbs around your training needs.

Don't forget to keep the fat intake at 20 - 25 % for stability and balance.

Joe is right that much protein still gives enough space to fiddle with!
