On 5 Rep cycle... Doing high Rep "finishes"..?

I came across some threads mentioning doing high Rep 3rd sets while on the 5 Rep cycle, for example, doing 2 sets of incline presses at 5rm, followed by a set of 15 or 20 reps with a much lighter weight.
Can someone describe the benefit of doing this? And which muscle groups would benefit?
 
I do this for increased blood flow which typically helps combat DOMS. I feel its essentially a cool down/active recovery.
 
It can be used to increase work done, while cutting for example, as well as increasing sarcoplasmic hypertrophy. The increased bloodflow could he helpful for repair of sore joints too, I suppose.
 
I know some guys who go as high as 100 reps. I typically go for 12-15 reps with a relatively short rest period.
