I have recently switched from Smith Machine squats to power rack squats and have a question on form. I have always heard the adage 'dont let your knees pass your toes.' I tried doing this and even with a light weight it seems difficult. I do possess the flexibility (or at least I think that I do) to execute a to-parallel squat. So I consulted my McRoberts books last night and in this he talks about flaring your feet out at least 35 degrees. I was always taught (when studying to become a personal trainer) that flaring your feet on exercises like the squat and leg press is dangerous. There are not a lot of heavy lifters (or even really competent lifters for that matter) at my gym, so I have no reference. Do most people flare out their feet, and if so, how much?
