Off Topic

Jester,
Thank you for your knowledgeable posts in this forum over the years. You have provided great advice regarding HST.
That being said, this forum is not the place for politics or the pushing of a socialist agenda. The leftist, lapdog media here in the US has got that covered.

I'm not pushing any agenda beyond one that doesn't put a reality tv host in charge of the most formidable military in human history.

And there's a reason that your media leans left ... because right wing politics in the USA has jumped the shark.

"Off topic" for a reason.

As someone who is neither Democrat or Republican, with views that range from conservative to liberal depending on the issue, I've noticed that Democrats always think the media favors the right while Republicans constantly insist that the media are pushing a leftist, liberal agenda. I would argue that the media is actually more centrist than anything else, which of course the center always looks like it is to the right or the left depending on what end of the spectrum you've decided to inhabit.

If the media here truly was left leaning, then Bernie Sanders (who is obviously quite left-field) would have gotten a lot more coverage than Hillary Clinton, who is more quite clearly more centrist. She's basically a democrat/republican hybrid, only moving further left when forced to by Sanders. But the media has clearly shown a favor toward Clinton because despite the goat sacrifices and (probably daily) drinking of virgin blood, she is a safer bet than anyone else out there, in the eyes of the media. The only real exposure that Sanders got was through social media.

Of course the media seems like they are left leaning to Republicans, because the party as a whole has gone bat shit crazy lately, showing much greater extremes than before. Many of the candidates have seemed to fully embrace the fundamental religious whackos, making them even further right than ever before. Just look back ten years to George W Bush. Say what you will about him, but just looking at his policies, you can see that he was nowhere near as far to the right as the majority of the candidates the Republican party put forth this election cycle. With the road they are on, the party is going to crumble. They already damn near imploded as Trump kept winning primaries.

Not to say that the Democratic party is all that stable either. With all the shit that has come out about manipulating the primaries to ensure a Clinton nomination, and scads of citizens abandoning a party affiliation to become Independents, the Democratic party seems just as doomed as the Republicans unless they go through a radical transformation soon. Most people planning to vote for Clinton are only doing so out of resignation, because they think she is the "lesser of two evils" despite many also believing that she is the earthly manifestation of a great ancient evil like Cthulhu or something.

Me? I'm thinking we need to institute a purge of the government. Too many members of Congress have sat in their seats for decades, carrying around beliefs and ideals from a century ago when people were okay with hanging black men in the streets for accidentally making eye contact with a white woman or killing gay people because you were scared they would turn you gay too. We need people who are more flexible, able to adapt to the times as they change, or this country will continue going down the shitter.

I'd also add that the Republicans drastically overstate the relevance of traditional media formats (and organisations), and the inverse is true of Democrats who rely too much on social media and new-age organisations; I.e. Everything since Buzzfeed.

Request remains the same; please don't vote for Donald Trump. The rest of the free world needs you onboard, not caught up in hysteria.

Shame that Bloomberg didn't run.

Great post Totz. This whole country is up the creek if either of those two lying scumbags is elected. I quit the Republican party several years when they started going crazy. However, I would never vote for Trump or Hillary. I just hope enough people regain their moral senses and vote for a third party candidate that I choose not to name.

Hillary is by far the lesser of two evils.

But the real issue lies in your government structure. Possibly the least effective in the democratic world.

Hmmm.... maybe you should have a look at British politics at the moment.... makes the US Government look like professionals and intellects...:(

Although on that front, I'm fairly sure the UK doesn't have MPs/reps who think that the female body has magical mechanisms to shut down conception after rape, or contend that belief in unicorns should trump science in evolutionary history...

...or if you do have them, at least they're not stupid enough to share those beliefs...

I can tell you without a doubt that I will not be voting for the orange faced windbag. But I won't be voting for the serial liar either. I'll be voting for Gary Johnson because he is the only sane person in the election.

Our Constitutional Republic, although it has its flaws, is by far the best government structure ever conceived by man. If our elected officials would actually follow the Constitution you would easily see that to be the case. The problem is that they don't follow it.

I agree completely with Totentanz. We seriously need term limits imposed on our congressmen and senators. The lifetime politicians are our biggest problem. They are only looking out for themselves and what they need to do to be reelected rather than what is best for the country as a whole.

The concept of constitutional republic is, yes. The current application and structure is deeply flawed.

I won't argue with that, and it is all because they do not follow the Constitution as was intended. It's pathetic what they have done to this country. The founders must be rolling in their graves.

Your constitution has a few holes as well ... no VP mention, 3/5s clause etc.

The idea was more or less accurate; legislature, executive government, judiciary - all separate.

Our system/structure here allows un-elected people to become Prime Minister. Twice now the last 10 years. At least the US are getting to vote who their leader is.

Believe me... we seem to have as many crazies here, all on tax-payers wages... plenty of these professional liars and fruit-loops have made some equally wild and obscure public statements here too over the years!

The PM in the Westminster system is always accountable to Parliament, or realistically to their own party. It's an extra check against authority that's both reactive and proactive; you can remove a muppet, and the PM will do less muppet-like things less often because they know they can always be removed.

That and you don't vote for PM direct, you vote for a local member of XYZ party, and the leader of successful party becomes PM ;)

That is true, technically, although isn't that the same with Trump & Co? But ultimately, our vote is hugely influenced by head of that party. The more 'likeable' or trustworthy (well as close to trustworthy as a politician can be) the head of the party is, the more likely we vote for their party. They are the biggest advert for their party, therefore it is very disheartening to see people who did a terrible job (in this instance, for their personal gains) step up to the head role, purely because the current party muppet had a tantrum and resigned because he didn't get his own way with the Brexit vote.

Would you vote for a party if the potential PM/head of the party, had ludicrous or destructive ideals, even if you liked the local member you were voting for? Because you would know that ultimately, the party would go along the route designated by the PM

Personally I could never bring myself to vote for this current shower of s**t or for any of their future members, all they want to do is crucify the working man and that has been pretty much their agenda since the 'devils daughter' was their leader!!
