Caffine and alcohol

Topic pretty much says it all. This may be sorta a newb question, but I would like to know. I don't normally take either substance but if I do its usually lots at once on rare occations... Since I've heard both caffine and alcohol are a diuretic (stimulate fluid loss), I would think that would cause an effect on gains. After all, muscles do contain water...

Not to be an Avant fan boy but PD has a quick and dirty, 2 part writeup (part 1, part 2); he leaves a few things out but it gives a decent overview on a very general anesthetic. Beer is one of my few vices so I quite often find myself stuck in a rut, so to speak, since I go out after working out.

As for caffeine, I normally just avoid it prior to lifting because it supposedly can fubar creatine's ergogenic properties. Few links below for ya.
