Pre-workout drink

Should a pre-workout drink have fat in it? How long before the workout should you drink it?

Thanks,
Andy

No fat in the preworkout drink. How soon you drink it depends on how long it takes to digest. You want the Amino acid levels high in the blood stream as you begin your workout.

I have been using 25grams of 50% whey isolate/50% Hydro 520 protein with NO carbs and no fat PRE-workout.

Should I add some carbs pre-workout? If so, how many?

I do use carbs POST-workout though.

Yikes! I don't know if I would personally drink 4 egg whites.

What you might think about doing is having a mixed meal a few hours before you workout, then have a whey based shake (like Primer) mixed with water right before your workout and then carbs and a casein based shake after your workout (like Driver mixed with milk and fruit. Or just eat a mixed meal with carbs and protein. Read the HSN article again -- I believe it tells you how many carbs you need post workout.

Here are some general guidlelines for eating preworkout:
4 hours for a large meal
1-3 hours for a smaller meal
30 minutes to 1 hour for a blended meal, a high-carb beverage or a small snack.
