    cut in the 15s, bulk in 10s & 5s?

As I see it, there are basically two isssues here; 1. Two weeks is a relatively short period of time, it might not be enough for proper cutting. 2. Heavier weights tend to preserve muscle better. Why not follow the general recommendation? That is, a normal cycle without SD prior to it. You can...

    To the Cluster style HST'ers

faz, If there are no other issues such as injuries or hurt joints, go for it. If you can't do negatives, you can use clustering during your post-5's in order to further increase the load. Just be careful because it will be pretty heavy.

    Why decrease in volume?

As the FAQ says, the volume doesn't have to drop as the weight increases. It often does though, because of our limited exercise tolerance. So, HST by itself does not call for a reduction in volume, nor is this a prerequisite for muscle growth. Within reason (taking into account CNS fatigue...

    Why decrease in volume?

The basic question asked has really been answered, so I'll just grab the opportunity to ask another related question. Is there a minimum amount of TUL needed to produce the desired effect (microtrauma)? I acknowledge that there are many parameters (amount of weight used, cadence, level of...

    To the Cluster style HST'ers

the_dark_master, Yes, I assume that other techniques are employed in order to get in enough metabolic work (high rep sets, pulses etc).

    To the Cluster style HST'ers

I think that "pushing yourself hard" has more to do with strength gains and not so much with hypertrophy. Anyway, as I see it, clustering is a means to achieve more TUL even when you work close to your maxes. I believe it's preferable to add more volume in the expense of avoiding...

    2nd Cycle

Yes, that's what he means, do more sets with your heavy compounds (the ones he mentioned) and that's it (no other exercises).

    Reactions To Muscle

About the gym population... 95% of the guys there perform thousands of reps on crunches, concentration curls, forearms and the like. Myriads of fancy exercises. I've seen only 3-4 people taking the time to squat. Is there anything else to say? It's a new lifestyle. Go to the gym, train light...

    Cluster training

Exactly what xahrx said. A cycle with a constant rep count (if you wish), progressive load, avoiding failure and allowing for good or bad days (or stength losses/gains). There is another point worth mentioning. Vicious in his e-book mentions that cluster training may enhance MAPKp38 activity...

    Cluster training

The reason I brought this up is because clustering is such a liberty... It allows you to account for bad days in the gym (why can't I get 5 reps at this weight today, I did it the day before), go beyond your 5RM with relative safety, avoid zig-zagging when you want to, add more volume without...

    Cluster training

We know that tension on the muscle tissue is what makes it grow. Therefore, what is important is the total count of reps and not how many sets or reps per set. This naturally leads to the idea of cluster training (ok, I know I'm not saying anything new, this is just the prologue). So, apart...

    First time Posting-- Question

I had the same time problem during my first cycle. During the 15's and 10's everything was ok (1 hour max), but the last workouts of the 5's took too long (1 hour and a half) due to more work sets, more warm up sets and some metabolic work. It was exhausting, so I decided to use a 2-way split...

    Not enough train days

What Totentanz said, plus they should be full-body workouts.

    Which one creates more hypertrophy

There isn't an easy answer to your first question. As the FAQ says, there is the possibility that working out 6x a week might be just as effective as 3x a week twice a day. However, to be on the safe side, the second option is recommended (one day rest between workout days). Maybe 3x a week...

Should you stop at 10 reps when weight is light?

The purpose of the 10's is not to fill you with lactic acid. This is the purpose of the 15's. The 10's are one more logical step to accomodate the ever increasing load. Since they are relatively early in your HST cycle, you should generally avoid failure (until your last workout with the 10's)...

    drop sets and 5's

Really, it's not about hitting failure once or thrice, rather it's a matter of finding a way to get the target number of reps in. So, if you aim for 15 reps during your 5's, you can cluster your sets until you reach 15 reps in total. CNS fatigue management is of primary importance here. If you...

    about resting time

Or you could use a split. If you are training 3x a week and you have the time, adopt a 2-way split and go to 6x a week. That's what I did in my last cycle during the post-5's.

    What I like about HST

Do not worry, Rain, just remember to eat enough and you will grow. Fausto, about the AAS guys... Did I mention that I like HST also because it is designed with natural lifters in mind? :D (not that it will not work for those chemically assisted, but they will grow anyway)

Why 2 weeks for every rep change????

Again, well said jvroig. Thinking outside of reps, sets, blocks and weeks helps someone really understand what HST is all about. As Bryan has mentioned, HST simply uses traditional BB terminology for ease of communication.

I couldn't agree more. Thanks, jvroig.
