Assisted ATG Squats

Heheh I was just playing around with the Lat Pulldown machine and discovered you can do assisted Ass to Ground Squats by holding the bar in a standing position, and setting it to a weight so that it actually helps you lift back up. You also get a bit of a back workout too.

Fun fun

not sure about that one?
in theory it sounds like a negative type of movement but instead of resisting a heavy wgt.  you would actually have to pull yourself down. are you somehow adding wgt to the bar? otherwise your either using light wgt and doing bw squats with a small amount of assist (is that really needed) or using mod to hvy wgt and pulling yourself down and flying back up with the assist.

It would work like the other assist machines taking some weight off I suppose, it should help getting thorugh sticking points.

I like to use box squats for that, I went from 80 Kg to 100 Kg in two weeks after dropping from box squats (140 Kg) to ATG.

Like BlueJacket I don't understand how this works?

If you are assisting both the eccentric and concentric part of the movement then, surely, you might as well be using a lighter weight without assistance?

Like Fausto I assume it works like the assisted pull up machine - i.e. if you can't manage atg squats at bodyweight then you could use this.

If you can then obviously no point

I think it would be more like a reverse squat? Like you are pulling the weight down instead of pushing it up?
