behind-the-neck press really that bad?

been thinking about trying behind-the-neck press this next cycle. the consensus seems to be that it's a dangerous exercise due to the excessive pressure put on the rotator cuff but is it really that detrimental? if i do use it, i would go no lower than the ears and possibly even switch back to standard military press come the 5's. is it worth the risk?
 
I have read various things some people say it is bad others say it is the best shoulder exercise you can do, I think it depends on your shoulder flexibility.
