cable fly...OK?

I'd like to get some opinions from the field. I love dips. I also love overhead cable extensions as I seem to get a good stretch contraction from them. Problem is, it seems like if I do dumbell presses or BB presses earlier in the workout, i'm hitting triceps too hard. I know that HST suggests compound movements for large muscle groups, but I really love those other excercises. Is it OK for me to do hard cable flys or pec decks as my main chest excercise? I'll hit them again with my dips. Thoughts?

I would treat dips as the main exercise and any other stuff as an extra. My pref would be to do flyes to get a stretch point movement rather than cable wotsits. I always feel that the negative part of the movement is not as good with a machine as with free-weights. Progression is much easier with compound movements because you can generally shift a lot more weight. With db flyes you might have to reuse the same weights for several sessions which is still OK as long as there is a progression over the whole cycle.
