Creatine and reduced calories

I can't handle the amount of fat I've added over the winter and I'm trying to cut down some for the summer. I'm trying for a slight caloric deficit, increased cardio, and continuing my HST training. I'm down about 7 lbs, making good progress, probably another 5 to go, and I seem to be keeping my muscle. My question is, will creatine supplementation be effective on reduced calories? I seem to remember reading something to the effect that it works best when eating above maintenance. Any thoughts?
 
off the top of my head (i only have basic creatine knowledge):

creatine on reduced cals may help to spare lean tissue.

the metabolic, performance enhancing benefits of creatine will remain will occur regardless of calorie intake.
