DB Shoulder press

interesting idea but I reckon it's going to be difficult to keep one db balancing at arm's length whilst trying to press really hard with the other. I would guess that that would compromise the potential load you could press? I haven't tried it though so I'll shut up now.

Lol

You may have a point but I think ol'Nick has his arms a little too open (not gravity centered) for my liking, that may be the problem...but as above...labcoat.

If it works for a higher load what the h...

So far we have the article and their poster boy to go by. Then we arrive at Lol's question - can I hold a 115 overhead while pushing another?
Hmmm...how do you spell 'headache'....?

One thing is that it would double the TUT...I'm personally not a fan of having twice as much TUT but the number of reps staying the same...

I don't think TUT really works like that, can you grow from static holding? If you could then why are we lifting the damn weight up and down all the damn time? Much easier to just hold it there for an hour or so, you could use f*ing heavy loads too if you're just holding it.

The neurological imput isn't really split, because your brain is concentrating on holding a bloody heavy dumbbell over your head, and not dropping it on said head. Your wrist and forearm muscles are mainly involved in holding/balancing a static hold weight, so good for grip strength, but not good for the shoulders, or your noggin if you drop it.

If you really want to do heavy single presses, just use 1 dumbell at a time...

Just to clarify, I'm in complete agreement.

I don't see the point in doubling TUT but only having reps the same...would appear just to make the exercise harder for the no extra benefit.

Lab coat report.

Seems to works somewhat but I haven't used extremelly heavy loads.

Does do something towards throwing the balance off centre.

Haven't yet seen the benefits.
