forarm pain

So I get this pain in my right forarm when I go heavy on bench. It is not debilitatling -- but it is distracting. When you are attempting some new personal bests on bench it is a little disconcerting to have your forarm "talk" to you. It almost feels like a shin splint in my forarm. A guy at the gym told me it is a tendon. It is not the elbow. Anybody else get this? Any ideas of how to deal with it.

Bob,
I used to get 'forearm splints' badly when I first start weight training (quite a while ago). Some reading I've done explains it as inflamation arising from the seperation of the muscle from the bone (as you do the movement). Whatever the reason, eventually the problem disappeared. It did take several months however, if I remember correctly. I've found an ice pack after the workout does wonders for such things, as well as a slower, more thorough warmup (starting with less weight and a few more reps).

Bob I use to get them from heavy straight barbell curls.

I would just SD or cut back on volume.

They go away with rest.

I would put Ice on for 15min, and then heat for 15min. Keep alternating. Do this whenever you have time or watching tv etc.

It will make you feel better quickly but dont push it too much of course.

I bet once they have healed fully, they will be stronger and not bother you again.
