Forearm splints???

Hey,

You people here have a lot more experience than I do so someone on here probably can help me.

When I do lifts, curls especially but also dips, I get sharp pains in the outside middle part of my forearm.

Lately I have been doing negatives on the preacher curl bench for my biceps. It seems to hurt them the most and possibly the cause.

Should I treat it like shin splints and ice them?

I am almost done my cycle, should I stop now or finish with caution?

Thanks

Sharp pains are not good or nice so I would go and see a sports physio as soon as poss just to be on the safe side.

I'm sure a good SD and then 15s will help a lot. All the best.

thanks for the reply,

I will SD then for sure. I hope its not too serious and that its better when I come back for my 3rd cycle.

If anyone else has had this happen to them then just let me know how it went for you.

Thanks lol

Ice is a good idea. And I would either end the cycle or drop the lifts giving you trouble and continue on with the rest.

I used to get that kind of thing and narrowed it down to straight bar work. I never do straight bar curls anymore. It forces too much supination. Let it heal and try dumbbells.

If nothing else, avoid low rep maxes and negatives with the offending lift.

BAck when I was more of a newbee to working out, I started getting severe forearm splints. I finally figured out that it was straight bar curls that were giving me the problem. Maybe its my relatively short arms, but those things gave me pains..

I started using an EZ-Curl bar and the pain went away. Sure, the EZ-Curl bar might be inferior to the straight bar, but at least I could do them!

After a few years and a bit of strength gained in the forearms, I was able to do straight bar curls again, although I dont really use them much anymore, I might do a set with the EZ-Curl bar, and then a couple of sets of dumbell curls now.

I had a similar problem with forearm splits as well. I would get them because of the bb curls even with a ez curl bar. I started doing incline db curls instead and I haven't had a problem since.

I agree with GothicSerpent i had the same problem so i changed from using the straight bar or even the ezybar to dumbell curls and hammer curls on a incline bench and i haven't had a problem since thou i'll go back to bar every now and then when i want to go really heavy or just for something different
