My girlfriend is becoming an emt.. she needs to be able to lift a lot of weight with stretchers.. The two exercises that I believe would be beneficial are squats and deadlifts.. What is the very best way to make her strength better.. We use HST for our upper body.. She doesn't want big theighs either..

Additionally, We are thinking of doing 1 full session of HST.. doing Strategic Deconditioning.. Then doing a pure strength workout for 6 weeks... doing ST.. then HST... then Pure Strength... Whats the best strength workout.... What do you guys think of this..
 
it is my experience that performance based programs tend to focus less on science.  in truth, that question is over my head and I will not attempt to make a fool of myself.

edit- I was thinking this morning that my comment here was a really dumb thing to say. Many individuals and coaches have put a lot of time and empirical research into developing strength programs.
