A while back there was a post by someone who described helping a kid out at the gym by getting him to go back to the basics of compound exercises and eating right. And getting him to forget all the hyped up supplements and the fancy exercises.

I would really like to find the post again and print it out for my kid to read. He says he's ready to start hitting the weights finally (didn't like riding the bench this year in football). Of course the kids at school have told him to do everything from pyramids to plate workouts. I'd like to start him off in the right direction and get him to understand the basic movements first and that post really pointed it out well.

If anyone can direct me to the link I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

I remember the post, it was a good un! Sorry I dont know where it is, good luck trying to get your son to train smart. I remember wasting a lot of time having no idea how to train, good thing he can learm from someone learned!

I tried and looked through the old posts...hoping one of the topic names would catch my eye. I'll run back through and see again.

firefighter, that is such a noble cause, I wish I could help you. I do not know of the post. maybe we can re constitute it. I sat on the bench for half my freshman year in HS -- best thing that everhappened to me. It lit a fire under my a** got off the bench big time. I would like to think that we collectivly could help your son. and all that false info just leads to frustration and dissalotutionment.

Thanks Bob,

What a fun joy it is though trying to drill routines into a teenagers brain. I just know that I could have never had that little brain function when I was that age (of course I did, but my testosterone blanked it all out).

I'm really looking into the 5x5 routine Linear program by Bill Starr for my son. If not anything, he will learn the basic movements and I will be there for him to learn proper form.

P.S. Ever see the look on a teenagers face when you tell him that all his eating habits are about to change and pizza rolls aren't on the menu....HILARIOUS
