Hiring a personal trainer

I am considering hiring a personal trainer to help me maximize my gains. I am hoping a trainer will be able to make tweaks to my form to maximize hypertrophy.

Obviously, the right trainer makes all the difference in the world. I found a IFPA pro (natural) in my area offering at home consulting. He seems to truly know his stuff.

What do you guys think? Is this is a good idea or a waste of time?

I know it's a tough question to answer, so I guess try asking yourself, if money were not a worry...would you consider giving a trainer with IFPA Pro credentials a shot?

If money was not a worry, yes.
Although I doubt there will be measurable difference hypertrophy-wise, it is a good way to improve your form and thus avoid injuries and specially give the motivation an additional boost.

I concur with electric, to get perfect form he/she would be ideal, but from a hypertrophy perspective I think you can get all the knowledge you need from these boards.

Unless of course he is a HST expert aswell, then your laughing!!!

If money was no worry then, rather than get a personal trainer, I'd book myself in on one of Ripp's courses, a Dan John seminar or similar. Maybe you can find a really well respected lifter/coach/trainer in your area who holds training seminars. You can learn by watching others as well as by doing. Being there in person is superior to watching a video. Once you have your form sorted you won't need a trainer and you can decide whether to train for hypertrophy, strength, endurance, whatever, knowing that you will be doing so more safely!

I'd add that the motivation factor is huge with a trainer. But if you are disciplined, all you need to know is in these forums. Money better spent on steak, IMO.

if (personal_trainer=="Bryan Haycock") evaluation="Great, worth every penny";
else evaluation="Waste of your d a m n money"

What electric said. If money were not an issue, then why not? At least he can watch your form, comment on it and help you fix a few errors. But hypertrophy-wise, I don't think it will make a huge difference, unless he helps in other areas too (nutrition, focus, motivation etc).

Look at his clients. If they look like you want to look, go for it. I hired an awesome plifting coach from the UK for phone consultation to help me with my gains, worth every penny.

Just remember, for his advice to be effective, you actually have to follow it. Too many people ignore something their trainer says or they don't eat the way they are told to, whatever, and then get less than what they expected and end up blaming the trainer.
There are a lot of crap trainers out there but there are also good ones out there. If you can find a good one then great. It's easy for a lot of us to program our own routines and such, but it's not the same as having someone there pushing you the whole time.
