holding dumbell

ok guys, heres my question. im not sure what the name of the exercise is, but if you stand and hold a dumbell until failure then would that be a way of inducing hypertrophy for the entire forearm? and if it is thenhow would i go about using that hst style? thanks for the help!
 
Static holds. For grip strength, not hypertrophy.
Probably better to use a chin bar or barbell, holding for long as possible up to a predetermined time, then adding weight.
 
Also maybe try using a bar with a bigger circumferance as well (you could possibly slip some pipe over the bar) cuae it makes the gripping harder
