I want strength

Sup guys. I've been workin out for maybe 4 weeks using hst. I love using hst and all but I just started football and I really need to improve my strength.

Could anyone give me advice on what kind of program I could use that would give me strength and a little bit of size? Or could I just use madcow's 5x5 work out?
 
The 5x5 and west Side Barbell and it's variations are probably the best strength routines I've come across. I find 5x5s easier, all the switching of exercises in WSB annoys the hell out of me and I'm not too apt at spotting my weaknesses accurately yet so I can center my workouts around them. Plus I find 5x5 leaves me less drained than WSB, which may be a good thing because you'll likely have extra training to deal with as well on the field.
 
Haven't tried Westside but 2 5x5 cycles gave me terrific strength and mass gains. There's more to the upside of 5x5, while it can be very taxing during the loading period (I started with DF which was probably a mistake but it worked well anyway) but the workouts are fast fast fast. The downside of course is that it really lacks the variety. You're pretty much limite to the big 3 or 4 if you cound DL's. Everything else is considered "beach work" and after finishing the core lifts your pretty much spent so you won't have much interest in extending more than a couple excercizes anyway. It's a great way to spice up HST in my opinion. Don't do it unless you are relatively seasoned at lifting though. 5x5 moves into big wieght really fast and if you are not accustomed to this it will more than likely lead to an injury.
