Just wondering if anyone with knowlege of injuries can help me???

Details of the injury are below, I just want to know what to do and when I can get back in the gym???
I lose weight really easily so want to get back in ASAP!!! Finally I want to know if it is worth me training if I can only do shaping excercises, just to keep the muscle worked (and myself sane)???

Thanks

I was doing dumb bell press a week ago, not my heaviest set, i'd warmed up, got to about my third rep and my left pec seemed to pop.
The weights flew everywhere, the pain was terrible for two days, but dissappeared to be replaced with a bruise where my chest joins my arm.
A week later, the bruise gone I tried to go back as I felt no pain. I tried shoulder press but felt a twinge, same again with lat pulldown and obviously I didn't want to try chest again so i've only been able to do arms and legs without pain.

If it was me I would definitely go and see someone with sports injuries knowledge and get it checked out before I went back to the gym. No sense in making the situation worse.

Hope you get it sorted.

Yeah, that's not something you want to toy around with, especially since any mistakes could lead to a lifetime weakness in that area. Go see a sports doc or someone like that.

Sounds like a bicep tendon tear.

Thats right a bicep tendon not your pec.

I had the same thing happen to me...the bicep tendon connects into the shoulder area/girlde.

It does seem to be a life long weakness for me.

I went from pressing 120 pound dumbells...to 10 pound dumbells then worked my way up to around 40 pounds...over a year and half to two years...but I was doing way overtraining.

I found out about HST and now I am back up to 75 pound dumbells...wish I could say that it was not a life long weakness, but every workout I do now evolve around that damn old injury.

I can't do dips...for example....so go get it checked out immediatly...but dont worry you can get back to 80 percent quick and then its just a jorney from there...like myself that I am still own.

Ian,

It sounds like the exact same thing I had a few years ago.  DB presses not really even pushing it that hard and I felt a 'pop' in my left chest, and pain.  A day or two later I also had a bruise in the upper arm where the chest attaches.  Mine was definitely a chest tear.  I went to an orthopedic doctor who said I could have surgery or just let it go.  He said if I let it go I will eventually gain most of the strength back and it will be fine, and that the surgery would involve pulling the muscle back over to the arm and 'stapling' it to the arm.

I chose to let it go and it is fine.  I can do any exercise without pain.  It looks a little funny if I flex it, but other then that I have no problems.  On occasion I can 'feel it' a little more in my left chest then in my right chest when working out, but its not painful.  I don't remember how long it was before I was back to working out, but it was at least a few weeks, and even then I took it slow.

One more thing the doctor told me is that if I wanted to have surgery, I can't wait too long because the muscle will start healing (basically the torn part of the muscle will 're-attach' where it is), and if you wait too long then surgery is not an option.  Mine was a partial tear, not a complete tear of the muscle

Hope this helps.

it's me (ian), (my passwords stopped working).

Thanks for the advice guys.
I've booked a drs appointment for 2mora and have physio arranged.

It's mad having an injury, I could do near 200 kg deadlifts for reps with no pain at all, but not one chin up, the first week. I could do arms and legs too, but the all important chest and shoulders are rapidly dissapearing.

Fingures crossed i'll be back on the big dbs asap, because i'm getting sick of tryna do little tiny weights and failing (its embarressing, all these little tiny doods laughn at me!!!!)

what's the explanation to these tears even though it's not even the max weight ? this is scary. i won't do DB presses anymore

Do be affraid to do presses.

My injury was from not warming up.

As long as you dont get close to your 1 rep max...you are going to be very safe.
