Is weight lifting dangerous?

I guess I'm a bit concerned by this.  I often notice that I am one of the heaviest sweaters, and my face is often red/purple at the end of a tough set when I am pushing my last rep.  There are obviously other guys working out hard in the gym, but it just seems like I am more affected by the weights.  I wonder if this is an indication that my BP is spiking unusually high during the workouts.  Any opinions?

Well.. According to the last article, if you take an heart echo exam and everthing is fine then there's no problem with weight lifting. I presume you should test that regulary but it isn't mentionned.

I wouldnt worry about it. It is extremely rare and life is full of much higher risks. Heavy sweating just means you are either working harder or your body has better cooling capacity. Red/purple face is an indication of heightened blood pressure, but that probably means you are just working harder. Paler skin displays this effect much more than tanner/darker skin. If you are progressing the weights properly and recovering well then you are conditioning your cardiovascular system right along with your muscles and thus it will be able to cope with higher blood pressure from heavier weights.
