Well, I hadn't done Tabata for the past couple of weeks (Thursday is usually Tabata day), because I had been going cycling Friday am. But not this week.

I did my normal 5 minute warm-up, shrugs (somehow, I skipped them the night before in my lifting

), then did the Tabata squats, then three sets of 10 weighted sit-ups, two planks (1 minute each with 1 minute rest in between), then some pushups, and 10 minutes on the stair machine.

I observed that the thigh burn from Tabata is very much like the burn from sprinting on the bike. I think they are complementary activities.

What kind of load do you use for the Tabata squats compared with say your 15RM?

Dude!!!!! I just do body weight with Tabata squats!!!! I tried holding a 10 pound plate once, and couldn't get past 2 minutes!!!

I suppose I will get to the point where I use some weight, but I don't see it in the near future!

What do you use???

How many squats do you do in each 20 second interval?

When I did ATG squats I did around 16 per interval. I've since switched to 90 degree squats (I keep a small stool behind me) and I get about 21 -22 per interval.

I don't! I just thought I'd ask as I might give it a try sometime. I have a slight masochistic streak and now that I'm not training to failure anymore it doesn't get massaged very often!

I figure that Tabata squats are about as masochistic as you can get. Starting out free-squatting sounds like a good plan. That would still be almost 200 squats in 4 minutes.
