More calories = unwated protien

I've just changed my diet because I wasn't getting enough calories. I used to get 212g of protien per day, and 1900 calories. I weigh 209lb.

However, I've heard for good mass I need around 2500 calories per day. So, i've upped my calorie intake by adding an extra protien shake, and omlet to my diet, so now my calories are on the 2500 mark, but this now means my protien intake is around the 260g mark.

Is that okay?

It won't really matter, though it would probably be a good idea to get those extra calories from carbs instead. That should help you grow.
How tall are you? Unless you are really short, I highly doubt 2500 calories is enough for a 209lb person to grow. Remember, 10-12 times bodyweight for cutting, 18-20 times bodyweight for bulking. 2500 a day would probably result in weight loss for you, assuming you don't have any thyroid problems or anything else. For adding mass, you'll want to shoot for about 3700-4200 calories a day.

But... that all is there just to give you an idea. Watch your scale and if it isn't going up by about a pound a week, then you'll know you're not eating enough. If your scale is consistently going up by more than 2 lbs a week, then you know you're eating too much. You need to find that sweet spot where you are only gaining about 1 to 2 lbs a week.

Good luck.

1-1/2 to 2g per lb. bodyweight is the accepted formula...but lately I've been seeing a ton of articles saying we don't need quite that much. But it certainly doesn't hurt to make sure you have enough. And not all the articles are talking about BODYBUILDERS either.
The other way to determine is by the C/F/P percentages.

1.5-2.0g/lb has only been pushed recently by weirdos like Berardi and a bunch of supplement shilling morons.

1g/lb is fine.

Excellent read Totentanz, thanks. My carb intake is low. It's only 279g, so changing the egg omlette and shake with some wholemeal pasta should do the trick. Thanks again.

Also, I am 5' 11"

Thank you Aaron F.

I cant argue with them...b/c I don't know ther research...but I have seen way to many damn people grow and grow big on a lot less.

I think Tot had a good point about carbs...but hell i cant explain that either.

I am all about living healthy...but if you believe everything these damn health nuts recommend you would never leave your house...hell you would be better to grabl you a skillet and fork and head out to your garden in the back yard to eat every meal.

There just more to life than brown rice and chicken breast...with Tuna for desset....unless your are a pro bodybuilder getting ready for comp!

as Aaron and tot said dont get carried away with protein..carbs will give you more energy..energy=more load=more muscle

Aaron has got a good point there!

Too much protein results in high acid balance which in turns leads to bone leaching (eventually osteoporosis) in order for your body to reach an alkaline/acid balance.

Carbs if watched are good.

If good carbs (simple, not complex or very little of the complex type) are ingested + fibre and no more than 15 - 20% fat (essential F.A's), a balanced approachable calory requirement can be met.

I used to think "the more protein the better", but in recent reading found various references (sometimes secondhand) to studies indicating .8 - 1 gm protein / lb of bodyweight or less was all that your body can use. This is probably only natural trainees, don't know how 'roid use would change the equations.

I'd rather be a bit on the high side than the low side, so I stay closer to 1gm / lb.

Fausto, interesting about the acid balance. Any rough ideas or rules of thumb as to how much is "too much", and can lead to this?
