Most Effective Version of Side Laterals

:confused: who knows.
infront you get a bit of extra stretch because you go past your hips,but you can cheat slightly because of more momentum.
from the sides its difficult to cheat,but you might have to use less weight.
cables keep the muscle under tension more.
use them all in different cycles.
i doubt the difference would be much.
 
In terms of EKG activity, cable side laterals provide the most electrical stimulation. I base this information off an article I read (I think t-nation) where the author tested the EKG values of all the major exercises for all body parts. I'm sure you can google and pull up the info (I'm at work at the moment :))
