So we're only a few days away from the Mr. O 2007.

Who's it going to be this year then?

Here's the list of competitors:

Eddie Abbew, United Kingdom
Melvin Anthony Jr., USA
Gustavo Badell , Puerto Rico
Francisco "Paco" Bautista, Spain
Darrem Charles, Trinidad and Tobago
Ronnie Coleman, USA
Jay Cutler, USA
Mark Dugdale, USA
Toney Freeman, USA
Marcus Haley, USA
Will Harris, USA
David Henry, USA
Dexter Jackson, USA
Johnnie Jackson, USA
Victor Martinez, Dominican Republic
Ronny Rockel, Germany
Markus Ruhl, Germany
Silvio Samuel, Spain
Sergey Shelestov, Russia
Quincy Taylor, USA
Vince Taylor, USA
Bill Wilmore, USA
Dennis Wolf, Germany
Hidetada Yamagishi, Japan

Jay obviously wants to retain his title but Ronnie will be hard to beat if he comes in rock hard (unlike last year). Dexter always looks fantastic.

My vote is for Ronnie if he's at his biggest and best.

If Bryan's at the show this year, I hope he keeps us posted.

Edited to add: Oops! I guess I should have posted this in the FYI section.

It's tough to call. I think it's between Ronnie and Jay. Ronnie could come in much better condition than last year and sans injury too, but Cutler finally seems to be dialed in. My first question would be has Cutler competed in other comps since last year or is he putting all his eggs in the Olympia basket again? If the former, chances are higher he won't be in top form for the O. In the past when he's had multiple comps he hasn't come to the O as dry as he could possibly be for one. If he's going solely for the O though, then I think he's got his diet and training down to the point where it would be impossible to call beforehand.

Plus there could be a left field candidate like Jackson, who I think has a much better overall physique because of his slim waste and much more controlled mid section. Dexter would win on golden era guidelines no doubt. But mass counts these days. I also wouldn't completely count out Ruhl. He's been a lot better these last couple of times, he might hit the right balance on a fluke this time around. His midsection is much tighter than it used to be, and when he's cut his abs are insane.

Wow, that time of the year again already?

I agree that it is going to likely be between Jay and Ronnie again, but I'll refrain from making a prediction this time around.

Interesting. This is the first time I think Cutler would beat Coleman on legs. Ronnie has always been huge, he still seems off. I'm thinking Cutler, Martinez, Coleman.

I just watched the Mr. O. finals webcast. What an impressive line up. Is it just me or was a lot of the posing music chosen by the competitors completely uninspiring?

Dennis Wolf looked incredible. For me he has great symmetry and he's holding just the right amount of mass to retain the classic bb look. I'm not a fan of the guys who pack on so much mass that they can barely walk without waddling.

Yamagishi also looked incredible for his first Mr. O. contest. The webcast said he was 176lb! Not likely. More like 226lb surely?

Dexter Jackson and Victor Martinez were both in great shape as expected. Johnnie Jackson was looking massive and also in great condition. He's a fine powerlifter too so it's always interesting to see how he does.

Looks like Ronnie came in tighter than last year. He's still huge but he doesn't look at his very best. His back seems smaller. He can still pull off one of the best 'most muscular' poses ever though. (If he does make this year's Mr. O. his last comp it'll be interesting to see what body weight he drops down to.)

Jay looked in very good shape. His back is amazing. It's huge. Still, not my favourite physique but he's undeniably impressive from all angles.

Final results are here:

Vince Taylor still around...thought he had retired years ago.

Another question is if anyone still really cares about the Mr. O competition.

I'm not entirely surprised myself:

Gives a whole new meaning to the old Alphaville 80's synth hit "Big in Japan"...

They've had their sumo's, of course...but that's another kind of "big"!

I've been interested in the Mr. O. ever since I was a kid and saw a poster of Arnie on the wall of the gym where my pop used to train. I was shocked and amazed at the same time; I never realised a human being could actually look like that!

These days, I don't like the fact that the competitors are now all using heavy chemical assistance but then that is true of so many sports today and is more a sign of the times. Symmetry and size will always be very important in the Mr. O. and rightly so but I think that aesthetics have taken a back seat to size, as far as who wins the competition - but that's a very subjective thing.

Personally, I dislike the state of the current Ms. O. comp. Not my thing at all. The Figure and Fitness comps - now that's an entirely different matter.

I agree that this is true of many sports. But perception is often reality. I think many people perceive that bodybuilding is ALL about AAS.

Even though I can appreciate the discipline and hard work that goes into physique building...it's hard not to focus on steroid issues when looking at those pics (from the O results link).

plus... I abhor extreme tanning.
