Neck training and HST

Hi,

does anybody train his neck with HST principles ?

I mean front neck ( side and back ) not traps.

I like a muscular neck and used to train it
with manual resistance or without weight
(like lying on a bench, head over the edge, then
many reps chin to chest, very slowly).

what exercises do you use, where you can increase
constantly the weight ?

I don't think neck training is necessary. I don't train my neck, but it's grown anyway. I think neck training can be very dangerous... so be really careful. Don't try to use too much weight or anything.

I was involved in a car accident last year that made me acutely aware of my neck muscles (whiplash.)

Initially I did started some neck work for rehab, but I stuck with it and my neck is noticable "thicker" now.

Instead of increasing the resistance every workout like you would with compound exercises, I increase the resistance every week. That works pretty well.

Another alternative would be to get some fractional weights from PDA and use them for progession.

There's a four way neck machine in my gym, and I use it for lateral and back neck extensions. I use basic HST principles, frequency, progressive load, etc.

I haven't taken measurements, but I know it's gotten thicker. I'm dieting currently, and my neck always looks thin when I get lean (as my wife is quick to point out!). Not this time.
