Ruining a progression.

Here's a hypothetical: Lets say you do assisted pullups, and don't reach body weight pull ups until the 5's. Well, in the 15s, you are at a barbecue, or party, or whatever, and all the guys decide to see who can do the most pull ups. So, you do pull ups until your arms are numb. Have you ruined the potential for growth from pull ups, because you jumped so far in your progression?

(I did not do this, but I could see myself doing something like that..

I guess not if you overdid them you may have to lay off a bit.

I don't think doing that once off is that bad, but will be if it becomes a habit!
