Sleeping

I have noticed that when I am training and consuming the proper amount of water that I am getting up 3-4 times a night to use the bathroom. This, of course, is affecting my REM sleep. I was wondering does anyone else have this problem? Or should I consider seeing a doctor about this. If it is normal, is there anything I can do to help/lessen the amount of times I have to go at night?

Thanks,
Brian

i had the same problem especially on creatine"dont use now" try not drinking water to close to your bedtime.

What's the 'proper' amount of water?

Have you always had to get up during the night (fewer times) or is this only recently?

What about the rest of your diet? Has that changed much? Lot's of fresh veggies are packed with water and if you are consuming a lot of milk that'll make a difference too.

I am drinking at least 4 bottles (~16 oz) of water per day.

At most, I would get up once (if that), when I am not training/not strictly adhering to the 4 bottles of water per day.

No milk. But yes I am eating a lot more vegetable lately.

I guess I just kinda answered my own question there didn't I?

Sorry to hijack a bit, but I've had a couple occasions recently of waking up in the middle of the night BURNING hot and drenched in sweat. The outside temperature is not unusual on these nights, so I'm not sure what's happening - but I have noticed it on nights after heavy workouts, when I'll usually consume protein in milk just before bed to try and ward off the catabolism from my intense cardio.

It's not frequent, and I can't make it happen intentionally, so I'm not sure what's causing it. Any ideas?

Keep a big bottle next to your bed so you dont have to go anywhere. You'll fall right back asleep. Slow down the water intake towards the end of the night.

Uh, are you older? I have the typical enlarged prostrate (I suppose) that causes frequent urination, and have been doing so for years now. Milk makes me pee a bit less than water, or at least not as soon. For night protein, I use Cottage Cheese with different mixes, and that has less water.
The bathroom is adjoining the bedroom, the road to it is well memorized, no lights are necessary, I sit to pee (uses less muscle, lower heart rate), take a sip of night water to help get back to sleep (I don't know why that works) if I need it, and flip the pillow to the cooler side.
I try to hydrate heavily during the evening, keeping hunger down and giving me time to pee before bed. Cut the liquids 1-2 hrs before sleep. You drink much less than I do, but I live in Georgia and work outside lately...almost 2 gallons a day if I work physically.

Your body will eventually adapt to using more water and you'll pee less.

The advice so far is sopt on...do not drink 1 to 2 hours before sleep.

Yeah, but be sure to keep it in a separate place -- away from your regular water bottles...

Most likely due to eating large amounts close to bed time.

This seems to happen a bit to the IF diet people over at BR.com

i for some reason drink at night the most. i drink well over a gallon of water a day and i have a 1L bottle next to my bed. i get up at leasr 3-5 time a night.

Wow, I usually drink over a gallon per day (I'm 33) and I NEVER get up in the middle of the night to urinate.

It may be normal for you, but it won't ever hurt to see a doctor. Well, in this case, it may hurt a little, if your doc has big hands.
