straight to shock

I dono if this has been mentioned before but if so here it is again.

what are your views on weight trainers that neglect starting off with strength training, instead they start pure shock principle training?

I think its down right dangerous.

Not only that, but they aren't considering that each progressive stage of weights, and also the first workout...are ALL shocks to begin with. This is just a lack of education.

I've only used shock routines to break strength plateaus, but also at times when it seemed like hypertrophy was stalling when it should have kept coming up.

HST eliminates the need for shock training IMHO - as evidenced by some guys who've been on it for a long time and are still getting results. Unless of course, you are stalled in strength. And I've recently tried the Max Stim method, which integrates with HST and it worked.

Most trainers are idiots. They just want to make money. You can't tell people what they should REALLY be doing if you want money, or the people won't keep coming back.

Totally true. I've heard "trainers" show people how to do exersizes wrong, eat wrong, and not push themselves.
My wife wanted me to look into becoming a trainer, since I love BB and talking about it, helping people and such. Not wanting to be one of those idiots, I looked into Ace Fitness national accredited school - and it is a fairly cheap course, but takes two years (as it should, I think) to complete and get your degree, but I don't have time for that much study for the end result, which they had a chart for. It showed wages for personal, group, sports medical and such wages for top trainers all over the country and even at the group level, I could't live on it. I made that much as a carpenter.
As T said, you'd want to tell people to do what works, and they just want to pay you to tell them what they want to hear. I couldn't deal with the frustration factor in that, on top of low to mediocre wages.

Quad

Looked into PT myself and came to pretty much the same conclusions. It would have been nice too, since switching from IT to Fitness as a career could have been quite refreshing.

Hey ho. Looks like its just the wife and kids that'll be getting my "expertise".

yeh I finally put it down to lak of education, I mean even I knew that if I didnt prepare my joints before such training I could end up hurting my self anyway. But most people just go gun hoe and chuck heaps of weight on thinking that lifting big gets you big etc. and they dont think of how dangerous this really is.
