varying workouts

I was just wondering whether anyone incorporated different excercises into their HST cycle. Say one day you do bench presses and the next day you do them on the incline. Would this help get around the repeated bout effect to some extent. I know Waterbury advocates different excercises and rep ranges in each workout.

it wouldnt prevent rbe because your still hitting the same muscle.
but it would hit it from a slightly different angle.

Actually this is a very common practice and it is called alternating workouts. Say that one has 2 different workouts, A and B, both being full body routines. A could have dips, rows, deadlifts and military presses, while B could have incline bench, chins, squats and military presses. Changing rep ranges for each workout is not recommended, though. The normal progression is 15's, 10's, 5's and negatives/post-5's.

Hope this helps,
Dimitris

right- 9to5 hit the nail on the head. One other thing- of course, you may have different maxes for alternate lifts, so when you're getting your maxes, be sure to get them for *every* lift you'll be using in the cycle.
