cardio while bulking?

I have read several people stating that cardio actually helps while bulking to obtain lbm (some credible, like DC). I have always thought that cardio while bulking is not logical, as you can simply eat less if you are worried about gaining too much fat to achieve the best lbm results.

Can anyone help to clear some light on this?
(please don't just regurgitate what others have said, be able to back up what you are saying in an intelligent manor)
