Powerlifting Shoes

Looking at purchasing a pair of Adidas Power Perfect II shoes, anyone own a pair of these? What do you think of them.

These are designed for weightlifting so they'll be great for the O-lifts and for HBBS. I deadlift in similar Adidas OWL shoes but the heel means that you are effectively lifting with a deficit. I can definitely deadlift a heavier weight in socks. However, for training deads and for everything else, OWL shoes provide a very solid, stable base to lift in.
Build quality of my shoes is excellent. They have lasted very well and are still going strong.

A lot of the oly-lifters at my gym love them. They're on my short list for when I get pair, but certainly not cost-friendly.

Hi mate, did you ever purchase these. I'm currently toying with the idea of getting some lifting shoes, but Im wondering if its worth it as they are pretty expensive.

Thanks Mick! I may have to purchase some on pay day then!

I would definitely check out some of the reviews of Oly shoes by Jonny Candito, on YouTube.

Unless you're going to compete, you definitely don't need a $200 pair and remember what's more is that you really only use them for squats (definitely not deadlift. Food for thought when you see a price sticker :) .

The best shoes for deadlifting, in my opinion, are no shoes.
I agree with you on that! I will look at some lifting shoes for squatting though, especially as I like to front squat, and feel the wedges in the lifting shoes would help with form and posture.

Well, considering that people would look at you like the Shrek monster if you go into a gym bare foot (at least in my gym that's the way it is) you could consider an intermediary solution like Vibram FiveFingers.

I also found that is very comfortable to do deads without shoes but I'm still stupid enough to care what other people think about myself...

There are deadlift slippers and socks on the market. The slippers have grippy soles. Think they're the kind of thing that Andy Bolton sometimes wears.

I just slip my shoes off and deadlift in socks at the gym, nobody says anything. But deadlift slippers would be a better option for gyms that have rules about that sort of thing.

I deadlift in these because gym staff doesn't like people being barefoot in the weight room and because I don't like sumo deadlifting without something on my feet for traction. If you guys don't like Vibrams (because they're ugly), Vivobarefoot is definitely a worthy alternative. They make a bunch of minimalist shoes for sport, casual, and formal wear.

If I remember correctly, a class-action lawsuit was won against the company because they made a bunch of claims that the shoe would strength the foot and leg, etc, but doesn't provide any evidence to back it up.

Funny because I bet you half these people frequent the supplement section of their local drug stores.

I actually have a pair that I bought in high school for running but they never fit right and always left me with blisters on my toes. There are much better minimalist shoes on the market that you can actually wear without looking like a clown. Vivobarefoot, Merrell, Nike Free (3.0 or 4.0), etc.

I currently wear Nike Free 3.0. They are pretty good shoes but I would like to get some Olympic lighting shoes for squatting. I just never seem to have the extra cash to buy some.

Soooo good.

Interesting. Any scope of good/bad brands? @Lol ?

Didn't it come out that vibrams actually increase risk of injury? Also contribute to world hunger and give you aids, or something like that?

That pretty much sums it up ... basically, if you've been wearing shoes your whole life without pain, keep doing it. If you haven't, keep doing it. $0.02.

Not used them but I personally wouldn't use any boot like footwear for squatting
