    Where'd you get your username?

My initials are JTS, so my username is a sentence, JTS is Yoda. Once I was having lunch with a friend. He told me he wanted to run a marathon. I told him how I had done it before, and I started telling him everything about my training. And I mean everything. I would talk for like 10 minutes...

    15's 10's 5's in one week

You showed a study for the strength assertion, but not for equal lean tissue gains.

    My Problem With Deadlifts...

Straight Leg vs. Stiff Leg... I'm not an expert either, but I'll share my experience. I used to do straight, but I started having pain in the back of my knee. Switching to stiff prevented the pain, increased the weight I could use, and still gave a good ham stretch and workout. If you do...

    My Problem With Deadlifts...

Yes, those four are separate and legit variations. There are also Romanian, Conventional, and Sumo Deadlifts. You can also do them from a platform to increase the ROM or in a power rack to decrease the ROM (Rack Pulls). You can also use different kinds of bars like trap bars or cambered bars, or...

    RECOMMEND CEREAL PRODUCTS

Nature's Path makes some tasty organic cereals with lots of fiber. I mix their Flaxplus Raisin Bran with their Optimum Rebound (banana-matcha green tea-almond).

    lower back issues

There was an old thread about specialization training for weaknesses. Search for specialization or weakness and you might find it. People in that thread actually encouraged more frequent training for a weak point, but with lower weight and higher reps. For the lower back, inflexibility, bad...

    the frequency poll

I usually use an upper/lower split for a 3x frequency, so that's how I voted. Last cycle, though, I went for 5x for the first week of 15's and 10's, then alternated back to 3x as I neared my 15RM and 10RM. I felt like I needed more recovery time, but maybe next cycle I'll use clusters to allow...

    Best OVERALL shoulder exercise

I'm going to put in a vote for lying incline lateral raises. It works the lateral delt really well, with a good stretch, and also the rear delt to some extent. For me, bench press works the anterior delts plenty.

Pain in back of knee when doing leg curls.  Should

I was taught not to let the leg straighten all the way (lock) on leg curls (or straight-leg deads). You don't want to hyperextend the knee. If you're doing that, it might explain your pain. If it's really bad or doesn't go away, of course see a doc.

    Chrondromalacia Patella

I was diagnosed with this in college many years ago, and others in the family have knee issues. I was also told more or less not to exercise, because I supposedly had "no cartilage left." The previous semester I had been doing several sports activities-- basketball, volleyball, and...

    Vinegar anyone

In one of these vinegar discussions, potassium came up, too. (To counter the acidosis of lifting.) Potatoes have a lot of potassium, and of course lots of carbs. I found out that salsa usually has some kind of vinegar. So I've been trying potatoes, salsa, and chicken as my post-wo meal. Is this...

    Perfect Routine?

For more ideas on weak points, I suggest the "specialization routines" thread. I did more frequent lower back workouts and it worked wonders.

    workout schedule and zigzag diet

Lots of people seem to lift MWF and do cardio on other days. Tell me what you think of this variation instead, to build muscle and lose fat: M, T, W (or any three days in a row) Cardio - HIIT and/or traditional, possibly AM+PM Diet: cutting Th, F, Sat (or any three days in a row) Lift - full...

    specialization routines

I'm happy to report this worked wonders for me. I added a set of GM's two days a week, for a total of 5 days/week of working the lower back (8 sets/week total). For the first four weeks or so, my lower back (and hams) had more soreness than other places. I kept reminding myself soreness was ok...
