Lifespan, Caloric Intake, and Weight on the frame

I know the ratings for BMI are bunk when it comes to an athlete or someone will excess muscle mass. The normal rating is for the average person. I know I'll die...eventually. Regardless of that, the idea of all that extra mass causing problems for so many others in the past is kind've...

Lifespan, Caloric Intake, and Weight on the frame

Okay, so I've heard in the past that caloric intake is inversely proportional to one's lifespan. I don't know how true this is, but it seems very probable. Supposedly the organs work harder, ingesting 20xBW in calories and such. I was planning to eat this much to put on mass and gain strength...

No post workout carbs when dieting?

Ever since I started taking 30g (3 tbsp) dextrose pre-workout, I've felt a lot better. When I took it after, I'd be kind've light-headed (still drink tons of water) for a bit. It'd take awhile for that to subside. When I take the dextrose pre-workout, I definitely notice myself coming back from...

    Caloric Requirements for Strength Training

Okay, now I know you need insane amounts of food for bodybuilding. Adding mass always takes a ton. What about to increase strength? I mean, obviously you'd need at least maintenance, but couldn't you eat basically around that, maybe a bit more, and gain strength just fine? After all, strength is...

Good call, BoSox. I'd like to hear the answer to this as well.

Yeah, that was a great analogy.

    Listening To The Body

So Bryan, what about maintaining muscle mass once you achieve the desired size? Would you survive fine by eating healthy, wholesome food when you're hungry? The general population eats when hungry, but they eat garbage. Fast food and foods that are already cooked or fried before hand for quick...

    Listening To The Body

The "simple equation" isn't so simple. You have all these formulas to determine how many calories you should be intaking. Why listen to some scientific formula? Your body complex enough to tell itself how much nourishment it needs every day. Your muscle wouldn't get bigger without...

    Listening To The Body

What if you eat only when hungry? I was considering listening to my body to get through my training and add size. Would this work. I know diet is a key part to growth, and training is the other piece of the puzzle. The thing is, eating on a schedule can sometimes be hard, and while I could do...

Swolecat - Bryan, would appreciate your input!

I'm not sure you have any good reason to say otherwise, besides the fact you like a variety of food.

Awesome. Whey for my protein, oats for my carbs, saff, flax and fish oils for my fats. Then I'll just toss in veggies and fruits for my phytos. This is boss.

"Most of the crap that gets published about phytos etc. are in a variety of F and V's and isolation just doesn't get it as there are a million other substances interacting with the isolated phyto." Sorry, I just woke up and didn't grasp that. What are you trying to say?

That's cool, but do you think you could have gotten the same result not following that same structure?

It shouldn't matter that I'm ingesting 270g of carbs roughly, even on off days, right? I'll save a cheat meal or two for Friday or Saturday's when I hang out with some friends. I'll try to avoid them, though, if I can. Aaron, good luck with the move and all. Thanks for the replies, everyone.

    Whey Protein Only

BoSox, if that works for you, then fine. I'd just prefer to drink them down quicker. It's more conveinent. I plan to have tuna with some mayo (a bit of sat. fat is good for test levels anyway) before bed, since that will help to keep me anti-catabolic. Dkm, I hear ya' on that, but I figure...

    Whey Protein Only

What post said it's necessary to eat real food? Oats are my source of carbs. That's real food. They're just blended. Whey protein comes from milk. Milk is food. The oils are healthy. They provide fats. Nothing wrong with them. Just because something is blended into a shake doesn't mean it's...

    Whey Protein Only

If I don't have to, I don't want to. So to answer you simply - no.

Swolecat - Bryan, would appreciate your input!

No refined carbs here. 45-50% total calories coming from oats (270g or so) a day. Another 48 grams of sugar carbs from milk, but that's lactose so it's not as bad as actual table sugar. So 50% cals from carbs a day will continue to do me fine. I'll just try and do something relatively active...

    Whey Protein Only

I found it interesting, but it still didn't give me any clear cut answer. It seems that fiber still helps to slow digestion, even if fats don't. I guess I can go 8 weeks using whey protein as my only protein source (with some slight casein coming from milk) and then see what happens. I trust...
