Lyle McDonald's explanation of HST theory

An excellent exposition of thinking in principles. (Sorry I'm an Objectivist philosophy major )

    PowerBlock Routine

Routine is attached, but requires some explanation (ignore the traditional HST structure): I workout daily using the prescribed weights. I warmup by performing a few reps with the original weight, then incrementing up the ladder until I reach the prescribed weight. I do 1 set per exercise...

    Cluster training

This is actually exactly what I do, except I cluster to 20 reps, and it's so much easier psychologically, let alone physiologically.

    PowerBlocks

I'm thinking about purchasing a pair of PowerBlocks: http://www.powerblock.com/frame.html I know that barbells are superior for hypertrophy, but these PowerBlocks are just so dang convenient. Any thoughts?

    Workout Nutrition vs. Calories

I asked this question hypothetically - not actually doing this. I'm wondering what percentage of growth actually comes from pre- & post- workout nutrition vs. total caloric intake.

    Workout Nutrition vs. Calories

I focus on pre- & post- workout nutrition, but not on total caloric intake. In other words, I take HS:CRE, PRIME+ & DRIVE+, but otherwise only eat when I'm hungry. Will I still see significant growth, or is it impossible to grow without a caloric surplus?

    HST ABS Discussion

Try doing military presses. At the beginning of the movement, when you're forced to lean back, in order to rest the bar across your upper chest, you get a nice stretch in your abs.

Bryan, do you still plan on releasing new issues of the HS:Report & Think Muscle newsletters, or are they defunct?

    HSN in HST book?

Is this because you plan on writing a seperate book on HSN, or because there's not as much to write about HSN? If it's for the former reason, I'd much prefer one "bible" book on both HST & HSN, as opposed to two seperate books .

    HSN in HST book?

Will Hypertrophy-Specific Nutrition (diet, nutrition, supplements, etc.) be included in the HST book?

Modified Repetition Method vs. Repetition Method

Does Prilepin's table apply to the repetition method as well as the max & dynamic effort methods?

Modified Repetition Method vs. Repetition Method

Not necessarily. Many people (including myself) use the repetition method for endurance training. Even Westside uses the modified repetition method more for increasing work capacity.
