15 reps promote less growth??

I notice that when you restart your HST cycle you are not required to start from 15 reps, but can jump right to ten, unless you feel strained. Why is this? Is it because 15 reeps produce less growth or what? Thanks

Hello xxfunguy007xx2000 :)

That's because the primary use of the 15's really is to provide the lactic acid build up to help heal your sore joints and all.

Utilizing lactic acid as a stimulus for tendon repair/health
Now HST incorporates a few other things such as higher reps (for lactic acid) to prepare the muscles and tendons for future heavy loads. This serves as "regular maintenance". Without it, you increase your risk of chronic injuries and pain. The metabolically-taxing reps enhance healing of strained tendons.

Do they produce less growth? Generally yes, but not totally zero growth all the time. With sufficient deconditioning, even the 15's can produce "some" hypertrophy. But generally, if you don't need the "healing power" of the 15's, it would be more efficient to go straight to the 10's, since that generally is where you can be sure the load is already enough to start inducing hypertrophy again.

Of course, these are generalizations, not absolute laws.

Hope that helps. Good luck! :)

Welcome funguy

Always best to do the complimentary protocol HST program and understand it well.

there are literally hundreds of articles, but the FAQ and then Pimp my HST e-books which will enhance your understanding of this unique training method.

15's are used for flushing the joints and muscles with lactic acid and thsu are quite important as they prepare the system for application of the much heavier routine weights later in the program.

They do cause growth, albeit less as hypertrophy is not their primary function.

Hope this helps ;)
