Casein

I'm starting to notice more and more that I'm allergic to casein. I recently started to add casein to my shakes and I end up with cold symptoms... more mucus production.

What could I use as a "slow" protein in it's place? Whey isolate doesn't seem to bother me at all. This really sucks since I do enjoy milk/yogurt/cottage cheese but unfortunately, if I consume any of these more than a day or two in a row it's really not worth the sore throat and congestion.

Thanks in advance.

I would guess so, baby a.

hahaha I guess I should start reading the whole post instead of just the first sentence.... :D Well, in that case, just continue with your shakes or eat some kind of lean meat. Don't worry about it too much.

Any meat will be a slow digesting protein. Lean ground beef, steaks, turkey, chicken, fish of any kind, or lamb. Mix and match. Throw in some wholewheat pasta or toast and BBQ sauce, cover your fish or chicken in lemon, use some tobasco sauce - in short, be creative. You can easily get in slow digesting protein that tastes great. Casein and whey will work fine as supplements, but I wouldn't stray from solid foods, especially animal proteins.

Staxx,
I do not use casein as my slow-acting protein. I do chug my whey shake before I workout so that I get my "fast" protein, but after my workout I love to eat chicken.
Ohhh chicken, my ode to you. You can get all kinds--I buy all kinds of Purdue--grilled chicken is all protein and almost no carbs, the breaded chicken has some more carbs and fat.

You can do everything with chicken! I dice it up and toss it in a salad, or put it in a bun, or eat it with a fork and knife, or throw some ranch on it, or perhaps some BBQ or even balsamic vinegar. Oh don't forget the occassional chicken fingers or spicy chicken. CHICKEN!
