Chicken nutritional differences

An observation (and minor whine).

One brand of frozen chicken I bought recently lists 4 oz. having 36g protein & 4 g fat. Just cooked a batch of a different brand, and it shows 4 oz having about 21g protein and 1g fat.

I had no idea there was such a disparity - I thought chicken was chicken! WTF?!?

Anyone else notice this (or care)?

They could refer to different things:

cooked - uncooked
with skin - without skin
breast - leg
male - female (no, not that :D)

100gr of cooked skinless breast have about 31gr protein
100gr of raw leg with skin have about 18gr protein

I looked here USDA list and found this:

Chicken breast RAW at

100 gms is about 23 gms of protein (100 gms = 3.5 oz)

They list 1/2 of a breast (115 gms) at 27 gms of protein (about 4 oz)

Some brands of frozen chicken breasts are pumped full of water to keep them from drying out when you cook them. (Albertson's brand, for one.) That might explain some of the difference, oz per oz. Maybe?
