cutting...but gaining weight

Weird eh? Yeah thats what i'm saying. last monday (a week and 4 days ago) i began my second cycle of HST with a starting weight of 197, trying to cut. This time around I have a very organized diet thanks to fitday, counting calories which is something i have never done. All was well, I was taking rip fuel, hunger was suppressed, workouts were fantastic. Then, I weighed myself wednesday (a week and 2 days later) and i went up to 198... True, only a pound, but cmon, I was eating 2030 calories a day roughly! I "feel" leaner, maybe look a little leaner but that could just be my mind playing tricks on me. I let myself go over the weekend, but only 2 days shouldnt make that much of a difference right? 7 days of eating good versus 2 of eating bad. I guess i want to know if they is ANY possibility of gaining muscle and losing fat at the same time? I know that is possible, but muscle weighs more than fat so I would have had to gain a decent amount of muscle and lost quite a bit of fat. Any ideas? Thanks
Keith

if you eat 2030 cals for 5 days and 3500 during weekends (just making an example but its really easy to add lots of cals on cheat days while dieting) your daily average for that week is 2450 not 2030.Remember that it is your average cal intake over the dieting period that counts.

...just another factor to consider...

Do a search for micmic's diet diary under general training (I think it's there)
He detail's how he measured his fat loss this summer.

When you are cutting, I believe you have to keep track of your calories
and body fat. IF your body fat measurements are coming down and your
weight is staying the same or going up I would call this success.

Also I have one "cheat meal" a week.

Yes, you can gain muscle while losing fat, unless you already have huge amounts of muscle and tiny amounts of fat.

Then again, you have to make sure you're weighing yourself under the same conditions -- same hydration, time of day, digestive system contents. . .

I will always weigh more after a day of feasting than I normally do, and will weigh less after a day of fasting -- a swing of well over two pounds, not even considering hydration.

I suggest always weighing yourself first thing after waking up and relieving yourself; it's probably your most stable time of day to weigh in.

Thank you all for responses. Didnt consider that its the average calorie intake, rather than 5 good days. And i didnt weight myself at the same time, nevermind food in gut and hydration etc. i'm sick at the moment but i'll report back when i get better & lose some fat....
