Does weight training burn fat?

Bryan has written that if you want to lose fat, you should not eat carbs before training, and wait a while after training before eating them.
Lyle however has written that fat is not burned during workouts.
Could someone clarrify this?

When working out, your body will use mostly sugars (carbs) as it's primary source of energy. You will then be burning fat if there isn't that instant source of glucose to be broken down into ATP (needed for aerobic respiration.) The answer to your question, is more or less, fat is being burned during your workouts.

The anaerobic systems don't use fat for fuel. In weight training, sets don't last more than 60 sec. How is that aerobic?

It doesn't matter. The metabolic boost from working out will cause you to lose weight anyway, if you are cutting.

In a more scientific description of what I said earlier...

During aerobic exercise, the body will usually act on readily available glucose molecules for immediate energy. As aerobic exercise increases, the fat molecules that have been stored in adipose tissue will be utilized. Fat is broken down aerobically. Once aerobic exercise is no longer performed and anaerobic exercise begins, the body will start to retrieve glucose molecules from other areas of the body for immediate energy needs.

No not really, depending on your energy balance.

Also it's important to understand, when speaking of energy pathways, that weight training is a combination of all three energy paths, it's really hard to invoke just the glycotic or anaerobic in weight training without invoking the aerobic path in a single weight training session.
