Hey everyone i dont know what everyone else thinks but im always trying to improve my diet and recently bought some flax oil..its disgusting! ive tried mixing it with milk and orange juice and it makes me feel sick! i really wanna take it tho as its recommended in bryans eating for size article...any suggestions on how i can make it tolerable would be greatly appreciated or even similar oils that are slightly less harsh on my taste buds....

That stuff is nasty!

From what I understand, ALA (the goodie oil in flax) converts poorly to EPA and DHA in the body. So you end up having to take a lot relative to fish oils to hopefully get the 'optimal amounts' and even then its a crap shoot.

As such you're better off, efficiency and money wise, taking the EPA and DHA directly IMO. Ever tried fish oils?

ive tried omega 3 capsules..but they still leave a horrible aftertaste especially when i burp..what fish oils do you take/ recommend beingisbeing?

I use the vitamin shoppe brand, its a 300/200 split which is pretty good.

I dont get the fishie burps anymore, but I'm not sure if I've gotten used to the capsules and don't burp up the taste, or if the capsules are just that good!?

But I think you get used to them with time, either way.

I take about 4-6 Fish Oil 1000 Mg caps with 1-2 Flaxseed 1000 Mg caps daily- I don't recommend starting that high...try with one each spread out , then as your body adjusts add more...with hardcore dieting and excersize I really strongly feel you need the fish oils for cholesterol balancing as well as the anti- inflammatory effects (saves your joints).

The Flax seems to help "push" the protein laden meals out too

BTW- don't ever take them with coffee! That seems to give more than just burps if you know what i mean.

About fish oil burps...

1. Build up slowly.
2. Spread out your intake. If taking 6/day then take 2 at breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
3. Keep your fish oil (pills) in the fridge and consume immediately upon removing.
4. Take your fish oil with food. Eat half your meal, take the pills, then eat the rest.
5. Try enteric coated capsules. They supposedly wont digest until they are in your intestines.
6. If none of that works, wait a week or two if you can stand it. They should eventually stop.

After you've done UD2 for a while taking flax oil is a doddle! Seriously, I can just glug the stuff back now. I would have gagged on it a few years ago but now I just don't give a damn.

I have a whacking great load of cod liver oil capsules that I can't take because they get stuck in my throat (horrible experience). When I cut one open and swallowed the contents it hardly tasted bad at all so no more capsule swallowing for me.

As far as I am aware, fats/oils are broken down through the action of bile which is released near the top of your small intestine via the bile duct. I presume all oil caps will have to have dissolved by then so that the fats/oil are sensed and bile is released.

Just take your fish oils before bed and viola, no burps. Or at least none that you will notice... now on the other hand, maybe your bedmate might.

I think after doing UD2 for a while, you don't give much of a damn about anything...

[a "doddle", huh?]

myself, i like actual flaxseed, not the oil itself. you can get it in most health stores and a lot of standard grocery stores. i grind it into a fine meal with a cheap coffee grinder. Has a nice nutty taste...i wash it down with milk. not only do you get all of the good fat, more than 90% of the carbs are fiber...means it keeps the pipes healthy. remember, those fiber carbs don't get digested, so they are safe to take with a low carb diet. 1/4 cup of seed (before it is ground) has 7gm protein, 11gm fiber, and 17gm of good fat.
