Going To China..

So Im going to go study abroad in China for a year, which I think is going to be a great experience. But theres one problem, I eat really clean, and make sure to good sources of my macronutrients in every day. But how can I do that in China?

Im going to be in Beijing to be exact, so I need some help finding some good sources of clean protein and complex carbs. Mostly of what I see over here, in the states, is greasy, fried, sodium overload food, that I wouldnt touch with a ten foot pole.

My main concern is getting enough protein, and it being clean as well. From what I can gather, Chinese people have a diet that is very high in carbs and very low in protein, with moderate fat. I do plan to train while Im over there, and I dont want to lose the hardwork I put in all these years. Plus I dont want to stay strength or size for a year, like everyone I want to grow.

Any advice for a person whos trying to maintain, if not gain, more muscles and still keep their low BF %? Dishes/items/whatever

When I hit a chinese restaurant, I usually look for this feast called "Happy Family". It's rice with ALL the veggies, ALL the meats, and sauce. I'll bet it's really good over there if it's a real and not American variation dish.
You know, like Taco Hell.

shitty food

Will you be able to cook for yourself while you're there? I know that 'traditional' chinese diets are generally light on the meat, but I'd be very surprised if buying meat and fish in beijing was a problem (actually, China's currently experiencing more 'american style' problems with obesity, diabetes etc. as people are changing their diets to eat more meat, saturated fats, etc). More american fast-food places are opening up (and I gather that there's quite a range of different international restaurants in Beijing) but I'd imagine you'll find plenty of chinese restaurants that will be happy to cook you steamed fish or meat (I've found that one of the highlights of eating in chinese restaurants in the US and UK has always been the tanks of fresh fish and shellfish - swimming happily around, waiting to be put in a steamer...) You could also always get some mailorder protein powder, for convenience.

Anyway, enjoy Beijing

It just occurred to me that there are BB'ers in China too. Maybe you can find some and see what they eat. Or eat some of them.

Because China is like in another galaxy and stuff, I think the problem is fairly complex. I really do doubt that in about 6-7000 years of recorded history(yeah, they`re a fairly ancient civilization), they have mastered the art of, you know, growing animals like the cow or the chicken or the pig...and fishing, no way, that`s far too improbable. Butchers over there?Only if they`re not from China and they`re trained offshore. Veggies?Neahh, they can only grow rice, coz they`re like retarded

Seriously now, you`re not going to have any issue there. The Chinese eat what they`ve eaten for the last few thousand years and has been fairly good for them(dunno, a billion and a half seems to point to a rather productive diet), but that`s them. You`ll be able to get all sorts of meats, veggies and so on, relax. And eating clean will kill you eventually, lightening up is a good thing(cortisol is not your friend).

Gain muscle and no fat? Start doing drugs?
Or... stop expecting the improbable?

Seriously though, from what my kung fu teacher (a Hong Kong native) tells me, China isn't all that different from the USA. Maybe that's only in Hong Kong, I don't know. But you can even find McDonalds there, so... shouldn't be to hard.

When I was there, many many many years ago, Hong Kong was a very civilized place in parts and then like any other huge metropolis, there were some areas you just didn't want to be in. But as far as food, they have the full compliment of availbale macros. Don't let the stereotypical western view twist your perception.

But I wouldn't eat the meat raw

And get used too not having a lot of toilets available, so if you are eating too grow time your food intake appropriately

I've always thought Chinese food here in the states was a pretty healthy restaurant option. I don't order anything that's deepfried and I don't eat the rice, so I'm left with meat and vegetables. Sounds like good bodybuilding food to me.
