Have you read this? How's the science behind it?

Article on dieting for hypertrophy

It starts out reading like a sales pitch, but it's not. All the information in the article is given free of charge.

It talks about eating surplus for two weeks, weight (in pounds) times 12 + 1500 calories. Then eat low cal, weight times 8 for two weeks. Continue this cycle.

The result is adding more muscle than fat in the two weeks bulking, then loosing more fat than muscle in the two weeks cutting.

Not sure how or if this could dovetail in with HST, but it's an interesting read.

The more I look into it, the more I realize I should have researched BEFORE posting. Sorry about that. Still interested in cycling calories though. I really don't want to bulk up on muscle and fat for months, then lose muscle and fat for months.

The concept of "cycling" seems to work in so many other realms, it seems that it might have some merit in calories too. I like what I have read about the Delta 1250 diet too. Seems easy to integrate into HST.

Underfeed the first week, overfeed the second. Lighter weights = underfeed, heavy weights = overfeed. If anything about the sudden change in caloric intake causing a hormonal change in favor of hypertrophy is true, then this should work. Since the science there is questionable (I'm not an over weight woman, as was studied), I guess trying it out is my best bet.

I guess what I'm talking about is the optimal way to acheive a slow bulk?

In my last cycle, I went through the last two weeks overfeeding on for 24 hours surrounging my lifting, and underfeeding on my cardio days. I lost about 2 pounds in that time, and my measurements stayed the same.

For me, that was good, as I had made good gains by then IMO. I added muscle over the course of the cycle, but kept fat gain down.

For others, I guess they'd say I blew it in my last two weeks, by not making any further gains. I under cut the benefits of HST.

I guess it's about priorities, eh?

Thanks for the links, Dan.
