How many of you do this

the important thing for me was to find out what cal level worked for me. like liege said a food log can be much more important when cutting b/c we do it so infrequent (when compared to bulking). nobody wants to spend weeks/months "cutting" at a best guess cal deficit but many of us have spent months going nowhere on a best guess cal surplus "bulk"

ive always recommended a food log, even if its just for 3-6 months. once youve got numbers/info on paper (computer) you can easily see at what cal level per body wgt you were at maint and at what level you gained. once you have those #s you can dial right in to what you need to eat to gain, maint or cut even if you no longer want to keep a log.
