HRT Supplementation

As an over-50 lifter, I may be getting Hormone Replacement Therapy...small doses every two weeks of Test to up my lagging levels - the anabolic posts only described the use of massive levels (Roider Levels) of 'stuff' and required the PT therapy and usual stuff for the off-cycle times.
How would the continuous use of HRT be considered on this program (HST)? Should there even BE an off-cycle, since it's just raising your test levels to a younger age?

Just do HST like normal. HRT will probably allow you to get better results but you don't need to do anything special like someone running an actual cycle might want to do.

Talk to your doctor about this soon though, because small doses of test every two weeks isn't really sufficient. At that frequency, I would assume you'll be recieving injections? If so, you should get the injections at a minimum of once a week to maintain stable test levels. Every two weeks is going to put you on a hormonal roller coaster ride which won't be any fun at all.

Unfortunately, most doctors know very little about HRT at this point, so it's a common mistake. Just point out to him that the half-life of test cypionate is only 6 days, so ideally you would get an injection at least every 6 days. It would also make it a lot easier if you could do the injections yourself. Just don't get overzealous and 'accidentally' overdose yourself for 12 weeks or so like some of the other HRT guys like to do. Haha.

Of course this is all assuming that injections is the route you are going. If not, then disregard that advice.

Wow. Good to hear that. I know a guy who gets his every two weeks (we ARE talking about injections) and he lost fat, gained muscle and all the foofrah, so I assumed that was the ticket.
I'm dealing with VA doctors here, so I may have to educate them!

Well every two weeks is better than nothing and you probably will lose fat, gain muscle and all that other great stuff. Every week would be better though. HRT is a very good idea though for older guys. I plan to get on it myself when I get to that point. Hopefully by then the medical field will know a lot more about it.

Even with larger dosages, there is no reason to cycle unless you are trying to avoid side effects.

HRT will help you feel better at rest and while lifting.

Interesting thread!

I started HRT 4 months ago and it's been an absolute blessing for many reasons.

As far as HST training goes, what I found actually happens is that my recuperation ability got a very nice bump (absolutely NO strength gains whatsoever that I can attribute to HRT). I deliberately did not modify my HST approach (such as dramatically increase volume since I now recover better) and what I found was that I was able to much longer into the extended 5s/negs than I ever had before. Specifically I was able to train an additional 2 weeks longer at those high loads before I started feeling the need to SD. I got some very nice gains this cycle and am looking forward to the next cycle.

This was using 10 grams/daily of Testim though just recently my Endo switched me to Androgel due to skin reactions to Testim and so far I don't feel anywhere near as good as when I was on Testim. I may have to lobby my Endo to try weekly injections next.

Extremely cool; but I don't understand you not getting stronger. I thot that was part of the program. As for me, I still have to try and convince the docs at the VA, and if not, may have to try elsewhere, if I can afford another doc.

A little clarification: I did not notice any strength increase due to the testosterone in and of itself. However, I also set some personal records during that extended 5s/negs period. I still believe it's the superior recuperation ability HRT gave me that allowed me to set the PRs and extend the cycle as far as I was able to.

Trust me. You're really going to like HRT!

Heck, all I want is to feel normal and not exhausted all the time...I'm 52 and doing carpentry work, management, and trying to BB while feeling like a flat tire. Also am on a pacemaker, have a lot of old bone breaks, ripped tendons, and God knows what else. My avatar is my B&A pic from doing MuscleNow program for a year...but it kinda burnt me out, everything is to secondary failure...every workout!
So far, I'm loving HST because in comparison, it's EASY!!! Love dem 5 rep sets! Like a vacation.
