I know eating sugary foods spikes insulin and this is bad...isn't it also good sometimes?

I don't know about other times, but ONE time that you want to spike it is post-exercise. Note that the insulin spike at this time will not make you fat -- all nutrients will be shuttled into muscles and other organs that need'em.

Hmmm. Immediately post wo I have a protein shake: 25g protein, <3g carbs. Then a light meal, approx 20g carbs 30g protein.
That sound ok? Wondering whether to get some simple sugars in (chocolate cake

) too?

Heh, I already had a thread going on chocolate cake....
Think after reading that I'll get a can of gatorade down me to post wo.
Cheers!

Beware, Ice cream and cakes are Low GI foods because they are plenty of fats. I think ideally would be better to have a post shake without fat and fibers but with high GI carb and proteins(to rise insulin) immediately after workout and have a complete mixed meal(complex carb, prot,EFA,and fibers) 1,5-2 hours later to ensure a stable(and thus not high) glycemia.
