Life in the USA

Just a quick post to ask a few things about life on the other side of the pond....

A lot of the mags/ books in the UK come from the US and mention multi vitamin packs and gatorade.
I believe gatorade is an energy drink, is it anything special, what does it contain?
Whats a multi vitamin pack? Is it just a multi vitamin tablet?

Also, protein wise, just how cheap is it over there? In the UK its just over £30 for your average branded 5lbs protein powder (more like £40 if you don't get it from the www). I believe the exchange rates about 2:1, so thats $60 ($80 not from the web). What are the prices like over there?

5 lbs of protein will cost $30 on the web

Gatorade was developed at the University of Florida, hence the name Gator. It's a good drink for quick energy (carbs), hydration (water) and electrolytes (potassium, sodium and calcium ions) to fuel athletes. It's nothing special.

It really isn't. It's just water, sugar, and salt. To add some taste, put some lime or orange juice into it. The only difference is the price. Most marathon runners prefer the homemade stuff as you can adjust ingredients to your personal needs, i.e. more salt for those who sweat more or more sugar when it gets near the end of the game and you need more energy. The rest is just advertising.

Lol, ive seen gatorade in loads of mags and websites telling you you need it while training! Just proves that they just promote whoever pays the most!

What about vitamin packs? they always say take one pack a day? whats that about?

I take up to 4 Centrum multi vitamins a day. Not sure about the vitamin packs or if they're anything special. I get good results with Centrum though they are packed with pretty much everything. By results I mean increased energy, concentration, and the ability of my eyes to focus in on something as I read is better now. All these things go down as you get older I've found.
