Liquid Diets...

I often do 24 or 48 hour fasts with the exception of detox teas and vitamins - in a effort to rid my body of toxins. A number of other steps are taken as well, non of which are importance for the sakes of this post. Anyhow, I was thinking of doing a quick 24hr fast during my SD, when I got this idea ... A Liquid Diet.

The liquid in which I would be drinking would consist of milk, protien, oat bran, blue berries and/or bannanas, cottege cheese, maybe some raw egg whites, and tuna if needed (for variety). I've mentioned this "shake" before.

ingredients:
10oz 1% or Skim Milk, 1/2cup raw oat bran, 1/2 cup blue berries and/or half a bannana, 2tblspn flax/fish oil, 2tblspn cinniman, and 2 scoop 100% WHEY protien powder - cottege cheese and raw egg whites optional.

macro:
700cals, 69g protien (depending on option content (cottege cheese or egg whites)), 60g carbs, 21g fat.

I was thinking of only drinking these shakes 3x to 4x a day the entire duration of SD (14days). I'm curious of the effects this diet might have on muscle, fat, overall body weight, & strength during/after SD.

Good Idea or Bad Idea??

And AF; just everyday toxins (i.e. air polutents, food toxins, the toxins your body creates when breaking down compounds, ect). I usually detox with a 24hr to 48hr fast a few times a year, as mentioned, but in return I also lose a considerable amount of weight & become very weak, given all I am consuming is varies herbal teas and vitamins.

So instead, and not so much for detoxification purposes, I starting looking into liquid diets - non of which where appealing. So I fashioned my own. 4 protien shakes ED with the conent mentioned above (a blend of whole foods); 2,800 cals total (which is just under my maintenance).

I assume for a number of reasons liquid diets are not a good idea. Most people only go on them because they have too. I simply want to see how my body reacts; kinda stupid??

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks....

seeing as a 'toxin' is a product of a living organism, how does fasting remove these toxins?

Fasting, as in cleansing the body. Its not that difficult an issue. Many cultures fast for one reason or another - some to cleans, some for religious purposes. Besides, as I mentioned, this is not the purpose of this post (to discuss fasting). The issue instead is whether or not "liquid diets" are a good or bad idea for an average healthy individual...

Do you have any comments regarding my concerns in that respect?

fasting means not eating which wouldn't do anything to rid anyone of toxins, at least from a physical sense. If it's something that you do for a spiritual reason, then more power to you but I'm pretty sure that not eating for a day or two won't do anything to your body except make you hungry and lose some weight, not ideal for a bodybuilder I might add

As far as the liquid diet, I don't think anyone really knows. I don't think any body builders have done this. In theory, as long as you give yourself everything you need, I guess there wouldn't be a problem with it.

This is also my assumption, but how accurae is it??

I personally see no reason why they wouldn't work, especially if you have everything a body needs to grow in them. ALA "The Juicer". I think the bad part would be the taste, mixing everything your body needs would be pretty gruesome, you would be living in "Fear Factor" 24 hrs. a day, granted it wouldn't be worms, then again it could be :), but anyway it seems to me that it would be pretty Nasty.

And not sustainable.

As mentioned before when you asked there are other issues IMHO opinion as well, such as the jaw was meant to chew, hence why we have teeth. If not chewing what would you do to keep your facial and mandible muscle in shape?

Aaron, is there anything that states that certain chemicals or phytonutrients are released through the act of chewing? As in the release of atoms in a crusher, that would be interesting to know.

Well, I've been on the diet for 4 days now. I plan on staying on it for 14 days (the duration of my SD). My start weight was 188lbs even, four days later my weight is 186.4lbs. So between the SD and the lower calorie diet (which is pretty close to maintenance) I've lost 1.6lbs. Weight loss isnt not my goal, but I guess it is part of the experiment.

If interested, I'll keep you posted...
