need advice on protein powders

Since Bryan has discontinued his stuff and I'm getting back into working out, I need some advice on what are the best protein powders?

After doing some research, it appears I'm looking for protein isolate which was microfiltered and all that jazz...

Who makes the best stuff...and opinions on taste are appreciated!

Thanx!

Sincerely,
bluze

Depends where you are mate - I started a thread entitled uk protein source so if you're in the UK try that.

If not I can't help, sorry!

I was going to post the same topic.

I used ON whey & casein before I discovered Prime+/Drive+. Not sure what I'll do when my supply runs out, but I'll be keeping an eye on everyone's responses. I might try ON Serious Mass (for the carbs) mixed with a little Whey/Casein for pre/post respectively.

I sure like to know what Bryan's recommedation is.

I was re-reading through the FAQ section and am a little confused about something.

When should I have carbs with my protein shake... pre-workout, post-workout, both, or neither?

FYI...Monday I will be starting to cut. Does it change for cutting or bulking?

The last thing I'd heard was protein before and protein+carbs right after.

Comments?

Sincerely,
Greg

PS - Do you guys usually go with vanilla and change the taste to your liking or go with a standalone flavor (like Chocolate)?

If you've read the faqs then you'll have read Bryan's answer to this very questiona and therefore wouldn't need to ask it!!

quoting from the faq...

t depends on your goals really. If you are trying to get big at all costs, you want plenty of carbs in both your pre- and post-workout drink.

If you are trying to grow while leaning out, you will want no carbs in your pre-workout drink, and delayed carbs about 30 minutes after your post workout protein drink.

If you are trying to get lean and keep as much muscle as possible, use only protein pre- and post-workout, then have carbs with your first whole food meal following your workout.
These are just guidelines. There is nothing special about them. You can still get lean with carbs in your pre-and post-workout drink. You can still get big without carbs in your pre- and post-workout drink. Overall calories is still the most important factor and shouldn't be forgotten while nit-picking over subtle physiological mechanisms, etc.

The place I have been using is www.myprotein.co.uk
They do unflavoured whey at £15 for a 5lb bag. ChrisHouston posted on unflavoured whey protein and reckons its great & I have ordered myself a large tub so lets hope hes right

They do ground oats too if you're looking for a cheap carb/calorie booster for bulking.

Rob,

I had read that but thought the lean while growing (supposedly impossible) vs leaning out while retaining muscle sounded like splitting hairs.

More importantly, I was wondering if any of that had altered since being written....hence my question.

Sorry if it was bothersome...

Sincerely,
Greg
