Need help consuming over 6500 calories

Hey Everyone,

Here is my issue. I biked to the gym and I bike to work. I bike 40km in total on days when I go to work and the gym which is Monday Wednesday and Friday.

Now my calorie numbers say I burn about 300 calories at the gym and 2900 calories biking that 40 km.

My basic needed intake for calories is 3200.

So my total needs for Monday Wednesday and Friday is 6400 Calories. I found yesterday I was only about to eat about 5000calories and I was trying. I eat clean and I eat as much as I possibly can.

Does anyone else have this problem and how can I fix it without quiting work or busing to the gym.(buses are expensive and no buses go to my place of work)

Eating clean is over-glorified. Just eat. More fats would make it easier to get more calories. Fats also keep the joints feeling good (at least they do for me...)

You must be pretty lean doing that much biking?

Do you normally keep abs year round?

If so you may need more than that?

100% agree with Tot,
Clean is OK when your NOT looking for gains (maint). But when the time comes for gains & add weight, then eat "whatever" you need to accomplish that. You can always know if your over doing the calories if to much fat is put on...easy to back down a little. No taking enough calories will result in a lot of hard work & NO gains at all.

Yes I am pretty lean. I weight 163 and Im just over 6 feet tall.

Im just finishing my first cycle of HST and I think I have gained about 4-5 lbs.

But I just started at this new job so now I have the extra calorie consumption from the bike there and back. I found out today though that I get free chocolate milk at my job so I drank down 6 of those for 180 calories each. This will help me out a lot.

Ill do some research on eating dirty as I dont know much about it, I gave up things like chips a long time ago. Thanks for the replys.

I have the same issue of not being able to find enough clean calories. What a relief to know that I can get them from wherever I want! Thanks totentanz & omegaman

But just to be sure, I still need to eat a certain amount of protein per day, correct? I couldnt just eat ice cream all day and expect to grow right??

Yep. Most bodybuilders already get enough protein anyway, which is why the focus then changes to getting enough protein.

[I'd have wanted to edit the original post, too, but I wasn't allowed to edit my own post. Maybe ikonboard decided it was too funny to change

just curious on what your diet looks like. post it if you have it. if you are halfway worried about your health on the inside, don't listen to these guys who say eat whatever you want it might catch up to you in the longrun. sounds like ive been reading too much berardi. anyway, post your meals. im at 4800cals on my WO days.

As long as your burning the calories there should be no problem, but the long term effects of high fat diets are yet to be studied. The dude in "Supersize Me" almost got liver disease in like a month, but then he didn't burn off the fat he ate.

I would suggest riding to the nearest bus/train stop and pubbing it from there, it will be very hard for you to grow with that sort of energy expendature. But then again iron men and triathlon competetors can do it, and some of those Tour De France dudes are pretty big, Floyd Landers is pretty muscley...hmm... try the "beer and chips" diet for a while and see how it goes, it won't kill you...might just shorten your lifespan a bit... :-)

If nothing else it'll reportedly raise your testosterone levels

Long distance medium to high intensity cardio is horrible for muscle growth. I have to assume that PeakPower was joking about ironmen and Floyd Landice. Ironmen are really small guys, but Floyd Landice ? The guy looks like a toothpick. Now, that is my perspective. Maybe you're going for a completely different look than I am, but if you want a physique that remotely resembles a competitive natural bodybuilder, you have to give up cycling.

If cycling is more important than having a bodybuilder physique, then at least get your calories no matter what you have to do. Stuff your face with all your healthy food, and if you still fall short, it's time for pizza, ice cream, hamburgers, etc. You can't sacrifice calories, you will get nowhere.

Edit: forgot to mention candy bars....lots of candy bars

I assumed he was going for the "ironman" ripped and fairly muscley look, as opposed to a BBer, which would be impossible for him to achieve with that amount of cardio. I assumed he didn't want to give up the cycling completey. As for Floyd, for a pro cyclist he's huge, especially his biceps which are usually nonexistent on a cyclist. Compare photos of him to Lance Armstrong see what I mean by huge.

wow great evidence. I dont know why people do research when they can just cobble together a couple of pieces of information and say whatever.
